Supergirl: Sean Astin's Cameo, Explained - The Mediahq
Of all the guest stars that could have appeared in the latest episode of Supergirl, "Blurred Lines", it is not the case that the person who did that had disappeared completely from the left field. It is a nerd-friendly actor who has already appeared in DC Comics-based features and has been in a number of TV projects. So it didn't seem impossible to see them popping up at the CW. But how they showed up, and the fact that it was (usually) kept secret, was all the more impressive.Spoilers for Supergirl Season 5, Episode 3 "Blurred Lines" beyond this point.
The guest star was none other than ... Are you ready? Sean Astin. The veteran genre actor is probably best known as - depending on your age - Mikey in Goonies, Sam from Lord of the Rings or Bob from Stranger Things. He has also done a lot of voice work for animation, including Shazam's voice in the direct video film Justice League: War and the Justice League Action TV series.
But this unwanted appearance on Supergirl was his first time he appeared live in a superhero possession unless you count Rudy as a superhero movie. In the episode he apparently played Pete, a former friend of Kelly & # 39; s (Asia Tesfai) who needed her help. It wasn't until the end of the episode that he turned out not to be a Pete at all ... He was actually J'onn J'onzz & s (David Harewood) brother, Malefic J'onzz. The form-changing villain used Kelly to free his mind and get the power of the beginning, the ability to project his brain into other bodies. While "Blurred Lines" finish, Malefic was still free and cursing revenge on his brother, so look forward to that more this season.
No matter how nice it was to see Astin in the role, it is a shame that Pete apparently ... Is there really no? It is possible that at some point we will see more of the real Piet, and I think it probably made sense for Astin's schedule. But since he was just a random identity that Malefic had taken over for a specific purpose, it seems that Astin was one and ready.
Also funny about this, the cameo was a complete secret, except when Astin told someone about it in August:
I think the best part of today was when Sean Astin pulled me aside and whispered in my ear that he had just filmed a guest appearance on Supergirl for the coming season.

Oops. Anyway, the news didn't come out and the surprise remained. Here's the hope that real-Pete will soon make a big comeback on Supergirl.
Supergirl is broadcast on The CW on 9 / 8c.
