Devils' Jack Hughes scores first goal versus brother Quinn in surreal scene
Top NHL draft pick Jack Hughes scored his first NHL goal Saturday afternoon - against older brother Quinn and the Vancouver Canucks.
With around 75 members of the Hughes family in Newark for the game, Jack took a cross-ice pass from Taylor Hall before snapping the puck past Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko.
Devils defenseman Sami Vatanen also picked up an assist on the first-period goal that gave New Jersey a one-goal lead.
It took eight games for Jack - the No. 1 pick in this year's draft - to get on the board, as the baby-faced 18-year-old center now has two points on the season.
"It will be something we dreamed of," Jack told reporters of facing his 20-year-old brother. "Anytime you get to play your brother, it's a lot of fun."
Quinn Hughes, a defenseman, was drafted a year before Jack and went fourth-overall to the Canucks. Sunday was the first time they faced each other in the NHL.
The two brothers took a picture during warmups before the game. The youngest Hughes, Luke, is eligible for the 2021 draft.
