PDX traveler diagnosed with measles
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) - A traveler who "passed through" Portland International Airport on October 12 has been diagnosed with measles, the Multnomah County Health Department said Thursday.
This person "recently spent time in countries where measles is common and had not been immunized against the virus," authorities said. This is the 15th confirmed case in the county this year, the most since 1991.
The exposure at PDX happened between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. this past Saturday, specifically in international arrivals and went through immigration and passport control.
Other area of the airport at that time are considered "very low risk," officials said.
In a statement, Dr. Jennifer Vines with the Health Department said the person hasn't exposed anyone else since arriving in Portland. "They have been in close touch with the health department and have been careful to stay away from others."
People who are vaccinated against the measles are considered to be protected.Others considered immune include:
Those born before 1957
A doctor diagnosed them with measles
A blood test proves they're immune
They've been fully vaccinated
